the Welsh dragon meets the Chinese dragon…

after the recent opening of our office just outside shanghai, we are celebrating the Chinese new year by officially announcing our Asian trade name.

not long after landing in china, we quickly realised that the direct translation of techsol from English to mandarin, was nothing short of gobbledygook. our Chinese counterparts explained that many English speaking companies usually select a trade name based on a mandarin expression that either sounds similar to the English name when pronounced or an expression that concisely describes their nature of business.

we considered various possible options including ‘tai shuo’, which means steady or staple and huge or large; and ‘ke jie’, which means technical or technology and solution or solve. but after hours of deliberation, we opted to be called ‘tan suo’, which means to explore, search or seek; an expression that we felt was very apt for a design and engineering consultancy who specialise in problem solving and new product introduction!!!techsol_external_wall_sign_03_centered_01

we would like to take this opportunity wish all of our customers and suppliers around the globe a fantastic Chinese new year and that the year of the dragon brings prosperity, fortune and good health.
